FEMEN: choosing MISANDRY instead of EQUALITY

We didn't made this picture up, it's actually the header of Femen's website (if there's a different one, just reload the page). What we did, indeed, was quoting on the upper left the interview given by Alexandra Schewtschenko for Zeit... (p.s.: it's in Deutsch)

We don't know about you fellow feminists, but last time we checked Feminism was still about gender equality instead of women ruling over men. Maybe we were in touch of some overpast info, or maybe, just maybe... Hooking other people's nuts isn't about Feminism.

It's up to you to decide.

First post and future F.A.Q.

Oh well. It's kind of hard to start when we have so much to say, so we think it will be polite to explain why this blog was created:

That's because Femen is not what it looks like, it's not a feminist group. And we don't say it because we want to call out or point which is a "real" or which is a "fake" feminist group, just because they don't present themselves like this. As we learned on the past years, neither Sextremism or New Feminist are a kind of Feminism. Yet Femen is perceived like a feminist group, and those girls make no effort to change  this perception.

You probably want to know why do we care so much about it. We do believe Femen is compromising Feminism, at least in some countries. We don't understand their purporses and we don't think they have goals, for intance: if you are a feminist fighting against prostitution, you probably have a good, crystal clear reason, and you must have a plan to support sexual workers, right? Can you be a feminist and still be against "the existence" of female prostitutes (not to mention the other sexual workers)? You know you can't, but they say nothing about it.

Those girls are lying and they're not answering questions. We firmly believe they have a hidden agenda.

There's a lack of both information and criticism about Femen. We think this happens for 3 reasons: 1) coventional media is not interest in covering anything but their breasts; 2) most of the information is in Ukrainian language and 3) Feminism is not an organized institution around the world. We are planning to fullfil this gap, but we are not in touch and we need to be. If you have information about Femen in your country, please send it to  againstfemen@gmail.com . We will really appreciate if it comes in English, but we have translators for French, Deutsch, Italian, Hungarian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch, so just send it to us anyway. If you have any questions we can answer, we'll be glad to do it.

If you feel like helping and know any of the languages above plus another one, contact us. We are in need of someone who can make research in Ukrainian.

We'll update the F.A.Q. as people raise questions.
